About Jasmine
I am a singing tutor with 8 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance alongside specialist post-graduate training in vocal health and rehabilitation pedagogy developed in collaboration with speech and language therapy professionals. I have worked with over 220 students, a significant number of whom came to me after experiencing vocal strain, nodules, or other vocal health challenges. My own experience of vocal fatigue earlier in my performing career, which I resolved through careful rehabilitation work, gives me direct empathy and understanding for students navigating similar challenges. I work collaboratively with several speech and language therapists in my area who refer patients to me for the singing-specific rehabilitation work that falls outside clinical therapy alone.

My singing teaching specialism is vocal rehabilitation — working with students who have experienced vocal strain, nodules, fatigue, or loss of confidence following injury, and helping them rebuild a healthy and sustainable relationship with their voice. I begin every rehabilitation student relationship with extensive conversation about their vocal history and, where relevant, coordination with their medical or speech and language therapy team, because rehabilitation singing teaching must work alongside clinical care rather than in isolation from it. My early-stage exercises use semi-occluded vocal tract techniques — straw phonation, lip trills, gentle humming — because these produce healthy vocal fold vibration with minimal collision force while the voice recovers strength and coordination. I address the psychological dimension of vocal injury explicitly because students who have experienced vocal strain often develop significant fear and self-consciousness about singing that must be addressed alongside the physical rehabilitation. My approach to rebuilding range and power is extremely gradual and built on careful monitoring of any signs of strain, fatigue, or discomfort, because rushing this process risks reinjury. Vocal hygiene education is a central and ongoing component of my teaching — hydration, vocal rest, warm-up and cool-down protocols, and recognizing the early warning signs of strain before they become serious. I teach students to distinguish between productive vocal effort and harmful vocal tension, a distinction that many singers who have been injured have never been taught clearly. Confidence rebuilding is treated as equally important to physical rehabilitation. My teaching goal is a singer who returns to full vocal health and rediscovers genuine pleasure in their voice.
