About Courtney
I am an alumni of The Royal Academy of Music where I studied classical Bass Trombone and have been working as a professional brass musician since. One of the main duties of being a freelance musician is to be able to sight read at a given notice and to be flexible in genres that you play in order to be more employable as a horn player. When working with the likes of Jools Holland or Stormzy it was extremely important for me to adapt my playing at a given notice in order for the recording session/gig to run smoothly
Being able to communicate clearly and being a part of team plays a huge role in being a freelance musician and make you a more appealing person to work with. This has enabled me to play in orchestral settings such as the Outlook Orchestra, Chineke and West End show such as The Lion King and Wicked
I have played all over the world with high end luxury entertainment acts and horn sections such as NPG horns so being punctual to flights, tour buses or events across the country is essential as this quality not only reflects on you but also your peers, especially the people who have booked you for the event.
One of the most important duties I’ve learnt as a professional musician is to always maintain a high standard of professionalism throughout the day regardless of how good or bad the event goes. This means attaining an appropriate code of conduct with the client, the audience and the other musicians you may be working with.

I teach young kids aged from 7 all the way up to degree level. I always make sure to do a consultation with my students before creating a programme to help give the most constructive lessons in the time I am given. I always make sure that technique is of a high standard and is fundamental to giving a good performance and is a lot easier to deal with early on. I pride myself on being an encouraging tutor that helps to bring out the musician in each student
