About Marley

I learned early—thanks to some incredible middle-school science teachers—that biology and environmental science were fields I not only excelled in, but genuinely loved. That spark carried me through high school, where I earned the Science Student of the Year award my junior year, and eventually through a B.S. in Wildlife & Wildlands Conservation. I spent three years nannying and tutoring children ages 4–10, which taught me how differently kids learn and how essential patience and individualized support are.

Working closely with young learners helped me develop a teaching style that’s warm, adaptable, and grounded in meeting students where they’re at. Beyond that, I’ve taught self-prepared ecological presentations to groups ranging from children to adults for a number of my jobs, and I’ve led ornithology/bird and vegetation lessons for fourth-grade field trips over the span of several months.

I’ve gained extensive field experience across a wide range of wildlife projects. I’ve worked on banding the endangered nēnē goose in Hawaiʻi, observed white rhino conservation efforts in Tanzania, studied brown bear behavior in Alaska, and performed a study on stress levels in female captive tarantulas. These experiences taught me how to stay calm, prepared, and adaptable—skills that translate directly into being a steady, reliable educator. I bring real-world experience, clarity, patience, and genuine enthusiasm into each of my lessons!

My tutoring style revolves around meeting students where they’re at and helping the material actually click.

I have experienced how impactful truly "good" teaching can be, so I build every session around enthusiasm and adaptability. When students enjoy what they’re learning, the information sticks so much better—excitement for learning is contagious, and I aim to bring that energy intentionally!

A typical lesson with me starts by figuring out what the student truly understands, what feels confusing, and how they personally learn best. I believe in catering to individual needs and learning styles (I’m a visual learner myself, while others are auditory or hands-on), which is why one-on-one tutoring matters so much.

From there, I break concepts down without assuming anything is “obvious,” and I pace things so no one feels rushed. That’s genuinely what sets me apart: unlike some tutors I had in high school who rushed through material—leaving me flustered and pretending I understood when I didn’t, or just handing me the answers—I tailor everything to each student’s needs and make sure they feel seen throughout the entire process.

My lessons are ideal for middle-school through early college students in biology, ecology, environmental science, conservation science, and related coursework, although middle school through high school contain some of my favorite lessons to teach! My goal is to help students build confidence, enjoy the process, and walk away truly understanding the material—not just memorizing it.
