Find out more about Mohit

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My love for teaching began back in 10th grade. I used to help my classmates understand math problems, and I realized how much joy it gave me when someone finally said, “Yesssss!” after grasping a tough concept. That feeling stuck with me. Over the years, as I pursued civil engineering and became a hydraulic modeller, my passion for tutoring only grew stronger. Teaching is my way of staying connected to the roots of problem-solving and sharing that excitement with others.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)?

I teach mathematics, and I genuinely enjoy breaking down complex topics like algebra, geometry, and probability into simple, relatable ideas. I often use practical examples from my work—like flood modelling or infrastructure design—to show students how math is everywhere. Some students struggle with abstract topics like set theory or matrix algebra, but I love turning those into engaging discussions by connecting them to real-life scenarios. If there’s one area I find less exciting, it’s rote memorization—math should be understood, not memorized.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, absolutely. My high school math teacher had a unique way of making every student feel capable. He never rushed through topics and always encouraged questions. His patience and clarity left a deep impression on me. I try to bring that same energy into my sessions—making sure my students feel heard, supported, and confident.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs empathy, clarity, and adaptability. It’s not just about knowing the subject, it’s about understanding how each student learns. I believe in creating a safe space where students aren’t afraid to make mistakes. Being able to simplify concepts, listen actively, and motivate students when they feel stuck are key qualities that make a tutor truly effective.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school?

One of my students once told me, “Mohit, I don’t see how math helps in real life.” So I asked him what his parents did. His father was a shopkeeper, and we spent the next session calculating profit margins, discounts, and inventory using basic math. His eyes lit up when he realized he’d been using math all along. That moment reminded me why I teach—to make learning meaningful and personal.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Math can be intimidating, especially when students feel they’re not “math people.” One challenge I often face is rebuilding their confidence. I’ve learned that the key is patience and showing them small wins. Even in my professional life as a hydraulic modeller, I deal with complex equations and simulations—but I always remind my students that every expert was once a beginner.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is definitely a passion, but what I love most is the process of making difficult things simple. Whether it’s explaining a tricky theorem or helping someone see the beauty in numbers, I find deep satisfaction in those “aha” moments. Outside of teaching, I’m passionate about sustainable development and using engineering to solve real-world problems.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I believe it’s my ability to connect with students—not just academically, but emotionally. I celebrate their wins, support them through setbacks, and always try to make learning enjoyable. When a student’s mother messages me saying her son scored excellently in exams, it’s not just a compliment—it’s a reminder that I’m making a difference. That’s what makes me a Superprof.
