About Derek

Hi, I'm Dr. Derek Porter. I earned my doctorate from the College of William & Mary and began my teaching career as a Global Thinking instructor at St. Christopher’s School (Richmond). Over the last decade, I’ve worked closely with students and teachers—as a classroom educator, a faculty research coordinator, and now as an independent school administrator (Dallas). Outside the classroom, I’ve had the honor of: - Serving as a guest lecturer for doctoral students - Leading professional development for school districts, especially around music history and culturally responsive teaching - Presenting at national conferences on document-based questions (DBQs), learning lost during the Pandemic, and much more. Whether you’re looking to boost your grades, prep for interviews, or just feel more confident in class, I’d love to work with you. My passion is helping learners grow—in their thinking, their confidence, and their character. I bring that same energy to every tutoring session.
