About Tanusha

I have been tutoring professionally for about 6 years and I tutor in all high school and AP level sciences and math.

I've been in the American public school system in New Jersey since kindergarten, got into a top tier school, and currently work at an innovative science center... so I know how to make it work.

I had to learn the hard way, through trial and error, but teaching my younger sister showed me how much farther someone could go with a little bit of help and someone who believes in their capabilities.

I have a strong belief that every student is a good learner if (really) listened to and taught the right way. Other than my research, nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student grow in confidence as they succeed in ways they never thought were possible.

About the lesson

I always approach every session with the belief that a student will gain a skill or learn something, even if it's just practice or too difficult. Every student is smart enough, even if they don't believe it themselves.

After gauging energy levels and engagement with a little conversation, I keep small talk to the minimum to maximize what students get out of their lessons.

I always start by asking what the student wants to go over, if there are specific assignments, topics, or tests to review for. If hesitant, I offer specific directions and let them choose what they think would be most helpful.

When approaching a new or difficult topic, I start by working through examples myself. However, I don't show just the steps; I explain my though process and decision-making, as well as alternative ways of approaching the problem.

I always check in to see which pathway of problem solving is more intuitive for the student and proceed with that. When it comes to learning, there is never only one way to learn.

The teachers give out the information, I'm here to help your students learn it. I utilize a variety of techniques, from analogies to guided questions to visual diagramming to mnemonics to patternising. But I always make sure to connect back to the methods learned in school, so they can always get the grade.

Though I tailor my lessons to students' needs, I place a heavy focus on teaching learning skills and patterns of thought students can apply themselves going forward.
