About Sergio
Hi there! My name is Sergio. I’m an undergraduate student in Statistics at the National University of Colombia, recognized as the best university in the country for math, physics, and statistics. Back in school, math wasn’t my strong suit; in fact, I found it really hard to understand. However, during my last two years in high school, I set myself a personal challenge: to stop seeing math as an obstacle and start truly understanding it. With effort and consistency, I not only improved but became one of the top students in my class. Going from someone who struggled with math to someone who understood it and excelled in my group allowed me to discover the most efficient methods for learning. But I didn’t have anyone to help me get here, and I really wished I had. This motivated me to be that “someone” my past self needed, so I started helping my classmates with their math, and I found that this role made me feel happy and fulfilled. I’ve been helping classmates and friends improve their understanding of math for a little over a year now, and I genuinely want to extend that help to as many people as I can. More than just a tutor, I want to be someone who contributes a little bit to someone else’s journey, helping in any way I can. If math is something you’re interested in and want to improve, I’m sure I can help you with that. Although I don’t have certified teaching experience, as I mentioned, I’ve been helping classmates and acquaintances improve their understanding of math, especially at school levels, for a little over a year. This experience has allowed me to develop key skills like patience, clarity in explaining concepts, and the ability to adapt to each person’s learning pace. My degree has a strong mathematical focus, and I managed to be one of the top students in my Math course, achieving a final grade of 4.3. I had the highest score on a midterm exam, and I scored 4.5 on the final exam. Regarding my teaching methodology, I focus on building a real understanding of concepts before solving exercises mechanically. I like to use everyday examples, step-by-step explanations, and make sure that the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as these are opportunities to learn and solidify knowledge. My goal isn’t just for students to get good grades, but to truly understand what they’re doing and gain confidence in themselves. I strive to create a friendly and safe bond with the student, so there’s greater trust, and teamwork with him/her is excellent. Are you having trouble understanding math? Do you feel like no matter how hard you try, you’re not making progress? I’ve been in that place, and I assure you it’s possible to change that story. The first thing we’ll do is identify together which topics you feel most unsure about. Then, we’ll design a clear path to move forward step by step. We’ll use visual resources, practical exercises, and in-depth explanations on the topic, which will really help you understand the logic of math. And if something isn’t clear, no worries: we’ll repeat it in another way until you get it! My goal isn’t just for you to improve your grades, but to truly understand what you’re doing, gain confidence, and discover that math can indeed be for you. More than just a tutor, I want to be a companion on your math journey. We’re a team; I’ll contribute my math knowledge, and I’m sure I’ll learn many things alongside you, and together we’ll have enriching experiences and achieve great things.
