About Desire
My name is Desire (pronounced like "Desiree") Ameigh (pronounced like "Amy"), and I am a PhD student in the English department at Auburn University. Most days, I work as a graduate assistant in the AU humanities department where I send lots of emails and help people to learn more about the history of Alabama. I love reading and writing, and I am currently traveling around taking pictures for an exhibit on Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald who is one of my favorite authors to study. When I'm not working or studying, I like watching college football, walking/hiking, and re-watching Grey's Anatomy.

I am an experienced English instructor and tutor with a background in English literature and rhetoric/composition. I began teaching and tutoring in the Department of English at Florida State University in 2016, and I developed a learner-centered teaching approach. Upon earning my MA degree from FSU in 2018, I explored different parts of Florida and the South living in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, and teaching for the Institute of Reading Development, Thomas University, Wallace Community College, Eastern Florida State College, Valencia College, and Auburn University. My 1:1 tutoring sessions are conversational and informative, which allows me to flexibly meet the immediate and long-term goals of my student in a way that works best with their learning style, preferences, and skill level. I am prepared to work with students at any level from kindergarten (my youngest student with the Institute of Reading Development was 3!) through graduate school (I'm a little bit over halfway through my PhD program focusing on 20th and 21st Century U.S. American literature).
