About Özlem

My adventure in learning English started in 2012 when we immigrated to the United States. At that time, I was in my last year of high school and the grammar I learned in Turkey was not helpful at all. Going to university was my biggest goal, but my language was very weak. It would not be a lie if I say that I finished my high school senior year in 0 languages using google translate. Afterwards, I took the TOEFL exam by memorizing 20 words every day. Even though my score was not enough, I started Bloomsburg University thanks to my grades in Turkey and the references of my teachers in the USA (2013). When I first started, I was taking additional writing lessons. Although my speaking and reading English and my reading comprehension reached an average level within a year, I was not that good at writing. Then, in my 2nd year, I moved to the Science Departments and completed my Major Department in Biology and Associate Degree in 2018. Ah, those 4 years have been a problem for me, constantly learning something new and when your mother tongue is not English! Due to the fact that my family did not know much English, I started to work as a translator little by little. In 2019, I received my medical translation qualification certificate. But I realized that knowing a language is a really big thing. Especially to be able to help those who do not have sufficient grammar, because I went through that process. When I was a translator, it seemed to me to be able to help people, in a way, to be able to heal them. I returned to Turkey in 2020 and since August 2020, I started to give English lessons over Zoom. Until now, I taught 2nd, 4th, 6th and 7th grade students. All of my students were hardworking from each other. Even though they were very afraid of English at first, we collected a few lessons. Knowing a language is a need, I never thought that I would need to use English as a mother tongue until I was 17, but I had to use it for 8 years. I stayed and he brought me to my current new self. A language is a human, they say, just like that! Learning a language also allows you and us to win new people and makes us a new person. I hope I have the opportunity to meet and teach with you.

About the lesson

Although my lessons are individual, my main goal is to teach each student starting from their own level and adding on. The main theme of our lessons is to learn by using memorable methods, and most importantly, by using the language. Learning a language is never difficult, we just forget because we don't have enough space in our lives. We overcome them together with everyday conversational English and some grammar. Lessons consist of active day-to-day reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammatical expression and use. For more information and details, you can contact us free of charge.
