About Carly

Hello everyone! My name is Carly Kratovil and I am 22 from Longmeadow, Massachusetts. I attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst for my bachelor's in speech, language, and hearing sciences. During my gap year, I worked as a speech-language pathologist assistant in a middle school and absolutely loved it! I got to work with such a wide population and make valuable connections with staff and students. In the summer I spend my time traveling to the beach, nearest ice cream shop, or go out for a shopping day! I love to read, go on walks, see the sunset, and cook in my free time. This fall I will be attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst to pursue a master's degree in speech pathology.

My approach as a tutor is to create a supportive, engaging environment where students feel confident, capable, and comfortable expressing themselves. As a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant, I strive to see the best in every student and focus on building both communication skills and self-confidence. I believe students learn best when they are actively involved, having fun, and making meaningful connections to the material.

I use a variety of teaching methods and techniques depending on the student’s needs, goals, and interests. Games are one of my favorite tools because they naturally encourage participation, turn-taking, problem-solving, and conversation. I also incorporate stories and books into many sessions, including picture books, chapter books, and short reading passages. These materials can be used to target a wide range of skills such as reading comprehension, comprehension strategies, expressive and receptive language, vocabulary, figurative language, inferencing, sequencing, storytelling, and social-pragmatic communication.

A typical lesson begins with a brief check-in and review of previous skills. I then introduce a targeted activity based on the student’s goals, often using a game, story, or interactive task to keep the session engaging. Throughout the lesson, I provide modeling, prompts, visual supports, and positive reinforcement. We finish by reviewing what was learned and celebrating progress, no matter how small.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my background working with students who range from early elementary through middle school level in an educational setting. I have experience analyzing IEP goals and using them to create individualized, structured lesson plans that are both effective and enjoyable. I aim to make students feel successful while challenging them to grow, and I adjust my teaching style to match each learner’s strengths, interests, and communication needs.

My lessons are designed for young children through middle school students who need support with speech, language, reading comprehension, vocabulary, expressive and receptive language, social communication, or academic language skills. I especially enjoy helping students who may feel hesitant or unsure of themselves gain confidence and discover that learning can be both productive and fun.
