About Lucia

I was born in Spain and raised in New Zealand from the age of seven, so languages and different cultures have always been a big part of my life. I am currently studying Journalism in Brisbane, and I have a strong interest in communication, writing, and helping students feel more confident expressing themselves.

I have always loved storytelling in all its forms, from books and creative writing to film, television, and music. I also trained as a classical pianist from the ages of 8 to 18, and spent my first year of university studying classical performance before moving into journalism.

I have been lucky enough to travel extensively and experience many different cultures, including time in the Dominican Republic, Curaçao, Tahiti, Colombia, France, Spain, and other places around the world. These experiences have shaped the way I teach, with patience, curiosity, and an open mind.

As a tutor, I aim to create a supportive and comfortable space where students can ask questions, build confidence, and enjoy learning English or Spanish at their own pace.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is supportive and interactive, with a focus on adapting to each student’s individual learning style and confidence level. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and are encouraged to actively participate in lessons.

I focus on creating engaging lessons that combine conversation, practical exercises, games or activities for younger learners, and structured support for reading, writing, vocabulary, pronunciation, and comprehension. For older students, I also help with essay writing, homework support, school assignments, and improving confidence in spoken and written English or Spanish.

I have experience working with children aged 3–12 as an English Language Assistant in Spain, where I supported classroom teachers during lessons, worked one-on-one with students, and planned small-group English activities for older primary students. This experience helped me develop patience, adaptability, and strong communication skills when working with learners of different ages and abilities.

Sessions are typically between 30–60 minutes long, with flexibility depending on the student’s age, learning needs, and attention span.

I offer lessons for:

* Beginner to intermediate Spanish learners
* ESL/English language learners
* Students needing literacy, homework, or writing support

As a bilingual speaker born in Spain and raised in New Zealand, I bring both native-level Spanish and fluent English skills, along with a multicultural perspective and a genuine passion for language learning and communication.
