About Renn

I am a 2nd year ( soon to be 3rd year) Biological sciences student studying at the University of Birmingham. In my first year I have tutored 1 student in GCSE-level chemistry. I can empathise and give advice on bridging the gap between A-levels and University as well as adjusting to online-learning. From my first hand experience I can also tutor in areas that will prove helpful in the first year of university. For my own A-levels I studied biology, chemistry and ancient history and so can tutor in these subjects, and for GCSE's I can teach the following: English literature, English language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I believe that having been and being a student gives me a good idea on how to tutor seeing as I myself have recently been at that level and so know what does and does not help with learning.

About the lesson

I am a 2nd year Biological sciences student able to give tutoring sessions to students who are going to study Biological sciences/ related in september 2021. I am also able to tutor at a A level and GCSE level. My lesson structure would start with setting out clear goals to be achieved by the end of the lesson, which will be based on previous goals set out by the student themselves based on what they struggle with or what area they wish to go into. I will then give information surrounding said goals in a form where I am either conversing with the student to develop their understanding or explaining the content myself if they are not experienced in the subject. The bulk of the lesson will be dedicated to working through practical applications and problems surrounding the content, in order to learn about the content in this manner, and of course I shall explain and give background information at any given point if required. At the end of the lesson I will go through the previous set out goals with the student and test to see if these goals have been achieved. If the student is still struggling with an area then we shall revisit the topic in the next session where I can focus more on the particular areas they are struggling with. I shall then ask the student what other content they struggle on in order to plan my next lesson accordingly. If the student understands a topic well but wishes to get extra information or background information in order to boost their grade, I am also able to offer this.
