About Nicole
Hello! My name is Nicole, and I am dedicated to helping students achieve their academic goals through personalized, one-on-one tutoring. With over a decade of experience in education and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Florida International University, I bring both expertise and passion to every session. My background in teaching and tutoring has equipped me with the skills to support students with diverse learning needs, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, and learning gaps from the pandemic.
My approach is rooted in understanding each student's unique strengths and challenges. I specialize in reading comprehension and writing, where I guide students to develop essential skills that foster not only academic success but also a love for learning. My methods are grounded in educational psychology, allowing me to create a supportive and engaging learning environment that encourages students to think critically, ask questions, and confidently express themselves.
Professionalism is at the core of everything I do. I am committed to providing a high-quality educational experience that is tailored to each student's needs. My goal is to inspire confidence in my students, helping them to achieve their full potential and equipping them with the tools they need for long-term success. As a tutor, I believe that personalized, one-on-one instruction is the key to unlocking each student's full potential. My approach is grounded in a deep understanding of educational psychology, allowing me to tailor my methods to the unique learning styles, strengths, and needs of each student. I use a combination of direct instruction, guided practice, and hands-on activities to ensure that students not only grasp the material but also feel confident and engaged throughout the learning process. By emphasizing active learning, I encourage students to ask questions, make connections, and apply their knowledge in various contexts, all within a supportive environment that allows them to take risks, make mistakes, and grow.
A typical lesson with me begins with a review of previous material to reinforce learning and assess retention. I then introduce the day's objectives, followed by a mix of direct instruction and interactive activities tailored to the student's needs. For example, in a reading comprehension session, we might discuss key concepts and vocabulary, engage in guided reading exercises, and then summarize the text and answer questions. Throughout the lesson, I provide constructive feedback, celebrate successes, and address areas for improvement. We conclude with a recap of key takeaways and a discussion of any additional practice needed before the next session.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my commitment to holistic growth. I focus not just on academic performance but also on building confidence, resilience, and critical thinking skills. My background in psychology enables me to effectively support students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning challenges, making our sessions both engaging and enjoyable. My lessons are designed for students aged 5-14, whether they need help catching up, want to excel in their studies, or simply need a confidence boost. Each lesson is tailored to meet them where they are and help them reach their full potential.
