About Alicia
I bring both expertise and a deep commitment to student success. As a child, I had a speech delay and my mother advocated for me because even though I did not have the language skills, she knew I had the ability. I share my stories with my families and students to prove to them that if I can overcome obstacles, they can as well.
I currently teach middle school English and English as a Second Language, supporting multilingual learners and students with diverse learning needs, including those with IEPs. My professional background includes co-teaching, individualized instruction, and designing curriculum that helps students build strong literacy and language skills.
I have a Bachelor's from Simmons College in Public Relations/Marketing Communications and teaching certificate in Secondary English as well as hold a Master’s degree in Special Education from Providence College. In addition, I earned a teaching certificate in ESL from Roger Williams University. I continue my education through courses, trainings, and professional learning communities. I am fully certified in Rhode Island in ESL, Secondary Special Education, and English. Throughout my career, I have worked with students across grades K–12, including those who require targeted academic support, language development, or structured learning strategies. I have extensive experience preparing students for standardized assessments such as ACCESS, as well as helping them improve performance in their core classes.
Students and families can expect a structured, supportive, and highly professional tutoring experience. I prioritize clear communication, consistency, and measurable progress. My sessions are tailored to each student’s individual goals, and I use proven strategies to build both skills and confidence. I am patient, organized, and dedicated to creating a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking academic risks.
Above all, I am committed to helping each student make meaningful progress and feel more confident in their abilities.

My teaching approach is highly individualized, rooted in my experience as both an ESL and Special Education teacher. I specialize in working with students who have diverse learning needs, including multilingual learners (MLL Levels 1–3) and students with IEPs. I use differentiated instruction, scaffolding, and culturally responsive teaching to make content accessible and engaging.
I break down complex material into manageable steps, incorporate visual supports and real-world connections, and adjust pacing based on each student’s needs. I also integrate language development strategies into every lesson, helping students build both academic skills and confidence in reading, writing, and communication.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A typical session begins with a quick check-in and review of previously learned skills to reinforce retention. I then introduce the day’s objective with clear, structured instruction and modeled examples.
From there, we move into guided practice, where I support the student through targeted exercises tailored to their level. I gradually release responsibility so students can work more independently while I provide feedback and coaching.
Each lesson ends with a summary of key skills, progress monitoring, and strategies students can use on their own—especially helpful for test preparation such as ACCESS or class-based assessments.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What sets me apart are my certification in English, ESL, and Special Education, along with nearly two decades of experience working with high-needs and at-risk students. I understand how to support learners who may struggle with language barriers, learning differences, or gaps in foundational skills.
I bring a strong background in co-teaching, inclusion, and case management, which allows me to not only teach content but also build systems and strategies that help students succeed long-term. I’m also deeply committed to creating a supportive, structured, and culturally responsive environment where students feel seen and capable.
Additionally, my experience with both in-person and virtual instruction allows me to adapt seamlessly to different learning formats.
Who the Lessons Are For
My tutoring is ideal for:
Elementary, Middle school and high school students (Grades K–12)
English Language Learners (Levels 1–3)
Students with IEPs or learning differences
Students needing support in English Language Arts (reading, writing, comprehension)
Students preparing for ACCESS testing or other academic assessments
Learners who need structured, supportive instruction to build confidence and close skill gaps
I also work well with students who benefit from a patient, step-by-step approach and those who may need both academic and organizational support.
