About Bree
Hello! I am Bree, a dedicated, certified educator and writer with over 20 years of experience helping students find their voices, ace their classes, and fall in love with the craft of writing.
My career in education has taken me from the high school classroom to district-level curriculum writing and student advocacy. For nearly a decade, I taught English II at Bowie High School, where I worked daily with students to sharpen their analytical writing and critical thinking skills. I also coached district-champion Journalism teams, guiding students to regional-level academic competitions. Beyond the classroom, I have authored English Language Arts curriculum units and exemplar lessons used by over 800 school districts across Texas, which means I know exactly what schools and examiners are looking for in top-tier student writing.
My passion for words extends far beyond the academic landscape. I am a deeply invested creative writer holding a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Writing and Literature from Bennington College, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Print Journalism from Boston University. I have spent years writing original nonfiction, poetry, and journalism, allowing me to bring the practical, real-world perspective of a working writer directly to our tutoring sessions.
Today, in addition to tutoring, I serve as a Family Learning and Engagement Specialist in public education, where my core mission is to advocate for students, foster community connections, and break down barriers to learning.
I believe that every student has a unique voice and the capacity to write beautifully and effectively. Whether you are struggling to structure a high school essay, preparing for college-level writing, or looking for an experienced mentor to critique your poetry or prose manuscripts, my goal is to provide a supportive, engaging, and highly personalized environment to help you thrive.

My Teaching Methodology: Supportive, Rigorous, & Tailored No two writers learn the same way. Having authored Texas ELA curriculum modules used by hundreds of school districts, I understand the mechanics of writing inside and out—and more importantly, I know how to break them down into digestible, stress-free steps. Our sessions will be highly interactive and adapted entirely to your goals: 1. Goal Setting: We begin by identifying exactly what you want to achieve, whether it’s boosting a class grade, preparing for rigorous writing assessments, or polishing a creative manuscript. 2. Inquiry-Based Learning: I don't just fix your grammar; I teach you how to think like a writer, helping you spot patterns and strengthen your own prose. 3. Constructive, Empathetic Feedback: As a family engagement specialist and certified educator, I specialize in building a safe, encouraging space where students feel confident taking risks with their writing. You won't just walk away with a better paper or a finished poem—you'll walk away with a toolkit of writing strategies you can use for the rest of your life
