About Isabella
I am a PhD student in sociology at the University of Massachusetts Boston with experience teaching and supporting students across different learning levels. I currently teach Introduction to Sociology and work as a teaching assistant for an Introduction to Criminology course, where I lead discussions, grade assignments, and support student learning.
In addition, I have experience teaching English to first-generation immigrant adults, designing lessons across different proficiency levels and focusing on practical communication skills. I regularly meet one-on-one with students to help them understand course material, strengthen their writing, and prepare for exams.
I also support students in developing skills in critical reading, critical thinking, and synthesizing information across sources. My teaching style is patient, clear, and supportive. I break down complex ideas into manageable steps and adjust my approach based on each student’s needs, with a focus on building confidence and independence.

My teaching style centers on clarity, patience, and meeting students where they are. I focus on helping students understand why something works, not just how to get the right answer. This means breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps, using examples that feel familiar, and checking in often to make sure the material is sticking.
I create a supportive and low-pressure environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I’ve found that students learn best when they are actively involved, so I build in opportunities for them to explain concepts in their own words, work through problems out loud, and connect material to their own experiences.
My approach is flexible depending on the student’s needs. For some, that means building foundational skills and confidence; for others, it means refining writing, strengthening arguments, or preparing for exams. I also pay attention to patterns in where students get stuck and adjust how I explain material until it clicks.
Across subjects, I emphasize critical thinking, organization, and clear communication. My goal is not just to help students complete assignments, but to give them tools they can use independently going forward.
