About Mia
I am a student at Colorado State University studying philosophy, and I tutored student athletes over the summer of 2019. Philosophy is all about looking at the same problems in different ways which is why I am a great tutor. I understand that the perspective the material is approached from is what makes or breaks a student's understanding. Because I am specialized in viewing things from multiple angles, if a student doesn't understand something said one way, I will have ten more ways to explain it to them. Subjectivity is the prime benefit of tutoring, and it is what I personally find fun about it.

My teaching approach depends on the situation.
If the student is in a class with homework, I will generally review the student's notes before going over the homework with them. This way, I can show the student how to relate the lecture to their assigned problems thus uncovering patterns between the notes and homework. This is mainly to help the student become a more independent learner. In terms of understanding the material, if the student is stuck on a problem, I will break it down into smaller problems leading to the final solution so the student can better understand the process of arriving at an answer without completely depending on me (the tutor).
If the class does not have regular homework, or if it is based on large essays or projects, I review the lecture or reading material with the student. Specifically, I would organize reading questions to help draw out different interpretations of the lectures thus inspiring analysis required for a paper.
