About Lauren
Lauren Kim is a multifaceted musician, collaborator, and arts administrator inspired by music’s ability to be a vessel for human expression.
An aspiring conductor, Lauren works closely with her colleagues in Baltimore to bring vocal ensemble repertoire of all genres to life. She currently serves as the assistant conductor of the New Choir of Mt. Vernon, a volunteer ensemble focused on new, underrepresented choral works, and dedicated to the enrichment of its local community. Lauren also supports local non-profit arts organizations including Mind on Fire, Lorelei Ensemble, and icarus Quartet through her administrative work.
A soprano with great passion for 20c. and contemporary works, Lauren’s recent and upcoming projects include recording Alliette (2026), a new song cycle by Spencer Kennedy based on the 22 tarot cards of the Major Arcana, Timbre Vol. 6 with New Music Mosaic, and more collaborations with Baltimore composers. During this year, she performed many seminal vocal works of the 20th century, such as Webern's Drei Lieder, Op. 18 (1925), John Cage's Song Books (1970), and Julius Eastman's Colors (1973). As an avid enthusiast of all classical genres, Lauren has performed in a number of productions, including Così fan tutte (Dorabella, 2022), The Merry Widow (Valencienne, 2020), Die Fledermaus (featured soloist, 2019), and Le Nozze di Figaro (children’s choir, 2015). In 2025, she played The Dead One in Josíah Garza's new opera "Comic" as part of Peabody's Opera Etudes project, and also served as Chorus Master in the other premieres.
Lauren holds fellowships from New Music on the Point, Longy’s Divergent Studio, the soundSCAPE composition and performance exchange, Westminster Summer Arts’ Conducting Intensive, and Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard & Nord Anglia. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Voice from the Peabody Conservatory under the tutelage of Tony Arnold.
