About Makayla

I am a current college student majoring in elementary education and teaching. I currently have 10 hours of fieldwork in the classroom for young children pre-K-6. I used to be a tutor at my old high school, helping sophomore students with English and sometimes other subjects such as math. However, I would love to have the opportunity to help out younger students who struggle with writing.

About the lesson

My teaching method is using cooperative learning and gamification. The proponents of cooperative learning theorizes that working in a group improves the attention, involvement and acquisition of knowledge by students. This method also helps a student create a sense of audience and making connections, which is very important in writing. Gamification is another way I would like to get the students involved, this would also help them get excited to learn all the while making those connections and getting in that extra practice. When it comes to grammar and spelling, the writing process itself teaches grammar. As students proofread, edit and revise their own work they learn about the proper use of grammar. I understand its important to provide extensive opportunities for students to read and write during these lessons. By emphasizing writing as a powerful act of communication, developing a sense of audience and purpose, and recognizing student work, students will no longer dread writing class but see it as enjoyable and a challenge ! I also offer separate lessons in teaching students how to write in Cursive ! I offer tutoring services to students K-12.
