About Tyler
I am a graduate in applied mathematics and statistics from the Rochester Institute of Technology. After graduation I worked as an actuary, a field that makes great use of probability and statistics. After two years, I have decided instead to pursue a career in data science. I have much teaching experience, having tutored in high school and college across several subjects of math and statistics, including students younger than me and peers my own age.

My methodology is based on some of the best practices from the most enjoyable and accessible classes at RIT. Often students were engineers that were not interested in the theory behind the math, but only interested in how to solve problems. I find great success in the following formula:
-Learn to identify the types of problems presented
-Learn the step-by-step procedure for solving the problem
-Practice this type of problem repeatedly until the patterns have been learned
-Repeat with the next type of problem, returning occasionally to review so as to not forget
With this methodology, math is more akin to a skill like throwing a football or playing the piano than learning history. Practice is emphasized more than pure memorization.
For those students interested in deeper understandings, it is easier to build them off of a solid base of how the problems work.
