About Kristin
Hello! I’m a District Content Specialist with extensive experience in education and instructional design, as well as advanced degrees in Teaching and English Language Learning.
I specialize in helping students and adult learners build strong skills in reading, writing, academic English, and language development. My work focuses on making learning clear, structured, and approachable—especially for multilingual learners and students who need additional support building confidence in language-based subjects.
Over my career in education, I’ve worked closely with teachers, students, and school systems to improve literacy outcomes, support English learners, and strengthen classroom instruction. I bring that same expertise into every tutoring session, tailoring instruction to each learner’s needs and goals.
I believe learning should feel supportive, practical, and empowering. My goal is not just to help students complete assignments, but to help them develop lasting skills they can use across school, work, and life.
I offer fully virtual sessions and work with elementary, middle school, high school, and adult learners.

My approach is rooted in clarity, scaffolding, and confidence-building. I specialize in making complex language and literacy skills accessible and practical for learners at all levels.
I use a combination of:
Explicit instruction (modeling skills step-by-step so students understand not just what to do, but why).
Scaffolded learning (breaking tasks into manageable steps and gradually releasing responsibility).
Language-rich discussion to strengthen academic vocabulary and comprehension.
Real-world application so students can connect reading and writing skills to school assignments and everyday communication.
Formative assessment to identify gaps quickly and adjust instruction in real time.
For multilingual learners, I incorporate ESL best practices such as visual supports, structured language practice, and targeted vocabulary development.
My goal is always to build both skill and confidence, not just complete assignments.
Typical Lesson Plan:
While each session is tailored to the student, a typical lesson includes:
Warm-up / Check-in (5–10 minutes)
Brief review of previous skills or a quick diagnostic activity.
Target Skill Introduction (10–15 minutes)
Direct instruction and modeling of the skill (reading strategy, writing structure, grammar concept, etc.).
Guided Practice (15–20 minutes)
We work through examples together with support and feedback.
Independent Practice (10–15 minutes)
The student applies the skill with decreasing support.
Feedback & Wrap-Up (5 minutes)
Review of progress, clarification of misconceptions, and optional practice for the week.
For ESL students, lessons also include structured speaking and listening practice throughout.
I bring a district-level instructional perspective and advanced training in English Language Learning that goes beyond typical tutoring support.
What sets my instruction apart:
I understand both classroom expectations and academic standards.
I specialize in multilingual learner success, not just general tutoring.
I focus on transferable skills, not just homework completion.
I am trained in instructional design and curriculum alignment.
I build long-term academic growth, not short-term fixes.
Students don’t just get help with assignments—they develop the underlying skills that make future work easier and more successful.
I work with a range of learners, including:
Elementary, middle school, and high school students.
Multilingual learners / ESL students (beginner through advanced proficiency).
Students needing support in:
-Reading comprehension
-Writing and essay development
-Academic vocabulary and language acquisition
-Study skills and organization
-Students preparing for classroom success, standardized assessments, or writing assignments
-Adult English learners seeking to improve conversational, workplace, or academic English
My instruction is fully virtual and tailored to each learner’s goals, skill level, and needs.
