About Tara

Having worked with children, adolescents, adults and people with learning differences in a multicultural environment for over thirty years, I have become passionate about service and community. Although my background is science-based, I love the arts! I value teaching communication linguistically and through developing writing skills. While my three sons study medicine I have become a Leonberger breeder and have completed credentials in canine behavior and training. I continue to work as a tutor and a medical secretary part-time. I enjoy training my puppies, reading and the outdoors, gardening and adventure sports during my leisure time. I believe learning should be engaging and self-fulfilling. I teach inclusively, embracing student diversity in all forms.

About the lesson

Using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in spoken language lessons, I enjoy using real-life themes and discussion to help students of all ages overcome language barriers. I love Total Physical Response (TPR) methods for young learners and students with special needs whenever possible, as they encourage multi-sensory learning. I find student-centered methods and task-based learning most effective for high school students, as they work to develop academic independence. I also believe a Lexical approach can be a huge advantage for students who enjoy vocabulary. As a teacher/tutor, I observe individual learning styles to choose the most effective teaching methods for each student. I aim to build students' sense of accomplishment and confidence.
