About Ansah

Hello, I’m Ansah — a postgraduate English Literature student at the University of Leicester, specializing in Literature and Creative Writing. Literature has been my world for over a decade, and I’ve paired my studies with hands-on teaching experience both in the UK, and abroad. I hold a BSc (Hons) in English with a minor in Media Studies. My classroom experience within the IB framework, combined with my own background in GCSE and A Level Literature, gives me a widened perspective and skill set to share with students. What draws me to teaching is not just the subject, but the transformation I get to witness in my students: the moment a difficult poem “clicks,” or the way a learner's eyes light up and you know a text just spoke to them. Teaching, for me, is as much about building connections with my students and boosting their confidence, as it is about exam preparation, and that’s what makes it such a rewarding field. Beyond the classroom, my poetry has been published (Starred Messages in The Art of Creative Writing), and I’ve led literary societies, written plays, and supported students in their own creative projects. My goal as a tutor is simple: to make literature not just something you study, but something you connect with, enjoy, and carry with you.

About the lesson

Having studied both GCSE and A Level English Literature and having teaching experience within the IB framework, I design classes that embody a unique blend of thematic analysis and discussion-based sessions; something often lacking in literary classes, despite that being the most integral part of literature. The belief underpinning my teaching strategy is simple: nothing is wrong in literature as long as you have a Point, Explanation, and Evidence. I encourage students to approach texts with agency, to risk interpretation, and to support their insights with close reading and critical thought. Rather than delivering one-sided lectures, my lessons are immersive spaces of inquiry. A typical session lasts about an hour, during which we explore a text’s universe in depth, while simultaneously drawing comparisons with the personal, social, and political realities that surround us. Literary devices are not only identified and analysed, but also reimagined and utilised, so students begin to see literature as a living, evolving dialogue rather than a static syllabus. With my academic foundation (a BSc (Hons) in English and my ongoing MA in English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of Leicester) and experience as both a tutor and curriculum facilitator, I am able to adapt these methods for GCSE, A Level, IB, and university students, ensuring that each lesson is rigorous, exploratory, and deeply engaging.
