About Alison

I am a tutor who loves the outdoors, reading, taking photos, and traveling! My education has revolved around building cultural awareness and an understanding of language learning and acquisition. I have also embarked on my own second language learning journey as a Spanish language student. I have a two year degree in modern languages with a focus in Spanish and a BA degree in English TESOL. I have worked as an instruction intern for college ESL students, tutored high school ESL students, and worked for 4 years as an ESL teacher in a public school setting. One of these years was spent teaching abroad in Norther Spain. I have experience with students of various cultures and various. I have learned so much from every one of them. They have given me experience in tailoring and adapting instruction for many different scenarios.

About the lesson

Hello! My tutoring sessions are currently set up as supplemental instruction to go along with other learning methods for students with an A2 level of English or higher. My goal is to create a relaxed situation tailored to your language learning needs. As a second language learner myself I understand the challenges that come with the territory. I give students space to ask any questions and make as many mistakes as they need to. I begin with an free 30 minute session to ask about your language goals and history, your areas of strength, and trouble spots. I can help you to evaluate and diagnose these if you just aren’t sure. From there I can provide supplemental instruction for your language learning. Students may wish to break lessons into 30 minutes of conversation practice and 30 minutes of instruction or help with English work. We can make our meetings flexible. I especially enjoy working with young adults in University ESL or intensive english programs. I am happy to offer sessions for learners strictly looking for conversation practice and cultural assistance even if they are not enrolled in any other sort of language course. At the end of the day, these sessions are student led - meaning you get a big say in how you would like to approach things while having the guidance and planning of a professional.
