About Julius

Julius V. Cajigas has a strong history in education and project coordination and management. He began teaching in 2011 with Chicago Public Schools. During his time in CPS, Julius was able to develop strong relationships with various staff members and parents in order to develop a learning environment that best suited students to grow and succeed.

For the 2013-2014 school year, he transitioned to a non-classroom role in education, working with Chicago Youth Centers as a program director and site coordinator. During his time at CYC, Julius was able to develop skills in public relations, budget management, as well as long term program management in order to craft an amazing after-school experience for students in at-risk neighborhoods.

In the 2014-2015 school year, Julius moved back into the classroom to work with at-risk middle school students at Camelot Academy, which specializes in working with alternative education students. At Camelot, he learned how to approach students with deficiencies in social, academic, and collaborative skills, to help guide them toward graduation. Julius then took what he learned at Camelot and became an educator in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, as a 7th/8th Grade Social Studies Teacher for Erie Elementary Charter School. At EECS, Julius learned how to design and develop a curriculum geared toward developing skills for reading and writing at grade level, with modifications for IEP students, and a focus on critical thinking and collaboration.

Julius holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, with a concentration in Social Science and a certificate for working with Middle School grades 5th-8th grade. Julius is currently looking for opportunities to expand his education and expertise.

A quote that best describes Julius comes from Puerto Rican hero Roberto Clemente, “Any time you have an opportunity to make a difference in this world and you don't, then you are wasting your time on Earth.”

About the lesson

Julius approaches each student by getting to know who the student is and what are their strengths and what are their areas of needed improvement. From there, Julius works with the student, leaning on the students' strengths and building a rapport where the student can feel confident in themselves to grow as a learner and use the strategies developed in tandem with Julius for the best success for the student.
