About Marcia
I was trained and taught ESL and tutored high school students in Illinois. Presently retired, mother of 5 special needs children (now adults). I have a reputation as a Grammar Policewoman: spelling, verbal and written English. Experience proofreading college level papers...my students got A's. Also good knowledge of social studies, civics, general science. Patient, kind, sense of humor, tailoring methods to the student's needs and interests. I have taught both children and adults.

I develop a rapport with my students and discover their interests. I am encouraging and kind. For example, I tutored a high school student who raced stock cars. His deficiency was reading and writing. At first, I made sure that my reading lessons were about racing cars and my writing assignments were geared toward him teaching me what he knew about racing. Eventually, we branched out to other subject matter. I created a personal relationship with him and earned his trust so he was amenable to learning the essentials of reading and writing.
