About Renita

Teaching runs in my family — and I carry that tradition forward with over 29 years of experience in high school and university-level mathematics. My classroom has covered everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus and Statistics, and beyond teaching, I mentor and coach fellow math educators, supporting both instructional growth and student achievement.

My credentials include a California Mathematics Teaching Credential, Administrative Credential, and two master’s degrees — one in Mathematics, one in Educational Leadership. But credentials only tell part of the story. I continuously invest in my own growth, staying current with research on how students think, learn, and develop a mathematical mindset. I do not just teach mathematics — I study how people learn it.

What drives me most is the “aha!” moment: that instant when a concept finally clicks and a student’s confidence visibly shifts. I build every session around creating that spark.

I believe deeply that everyone can learn math. But our culture quietly tells people it’s acceptable — even normal — not to be “good” at it. I push back against that every day by creating a judgment-free space where students can confront math anxiety, build real perseverance, and discover what they’re actually capable of. As a proponent of growth mindset and higher-order thinking, my goal isn’t just mathematical understanding — it’s transforming how students see themselves as learners.

Outside the classroom, I’m a proud mom of two Stanford graduates. I bring the same care, high expectations, and genuine investment to my students that I brought to raising them.

About the lesson

Most tutors teach content — I help build thinkers. With nearly three decades of experience, I start by truly listening, then design every session around where you are and where you want to go, using proven strategies and AI as tools.
