About Mary
Hi! I’m Mary, an experienced Physics and Mathematics educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience and a doctorate in education.
Teaching is more than a profession for me—it is something I genuinely enjoy. I love seeing the moment when a student finally understands a concept that once seemed difficult or confusing. That is what motivates me as an educator.
My areas of expertise include Physics, AP Physics, Mathematics, and STEM education. Over the years, I have worked with students with different learning styles, abilities, and academic goals. I enjoy making challenging concepts easier to understand by connecting them to real-life situations and breaking problems into clear, manageable steps.
I am a patient, encouraging, and approachable teacher. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again. My goal is to help students become not only better at Physics and Math, but also more confident in their ability to learn.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy creating educational resources, learning new things, spending time with my family, and exploring creative ways to make learning more engaging.
I would love the opportunity to work with you and help you reach your academic goals. Let’s learn, solve problems, and grow together!

# My Approach as a Tutor
My approach to tutoring is **student-centered, personalized, and focused on genuine understanding**. I believe students learn best when they understand not only how to solve a problem, but also why the solution works.
With more than 10 years of teaching experience and a doctorate in education, I have developed a teaching approach that combines clear explanations, guided practice, questioning, real-world applications, and problem-solving strategies.
# My Teaching Methods & Techniques
I begin by identifying the student's current level, learning goals, and areas of difficulty. I then adjust my instruction according to the student's needs and learning pace.
Depending on the topic and student, I use:
* Step-by-step explanations of difficult concepts
* Guided problem solving
* Conceptual questions and discussion
* Worked examples followed by independent practice
* Visual representations, diagrams, and real-world examples
* Practice questions and exam-style problems
* Immediate feedback and correction
* Strategies for approaching multi-step Physics and Math problems
* Review activities to strengthen retention and confidence
For Physics, I place particular emphasis on connecting **concepts, mathematical relationships, and physical meaning**. I want students to understand what a formula represents rather than simply memorize it.
# What a Typical Lesson Looks Like
A typical 50-minute lesson may include:
**1. Quick Review (5 minutes)**
We review previous concepts or check understanding of prerequisite knowledge.
**2. New Concept (10–15 minutes)**
I introduce the topic using clear explanations, examples, diagrams, or real-world applications.
**3. Guided Practice (15–20 minutes)**
We work through problems together. I ask questions to understand the student's reasoning and provide guidance when needed.
**4. Independent Practice (5–10 minutes)**
The student applies the strategy independently while I provide feedback and support.
**5. Summary & Next Steps (5 minutes)**
We review the key ideas, identify areas that still need practice, and discuss what the student should work on next.
Lessons can also be adapted for students who need homework assistance, exam preparation, or intensive review of specific topics.
# What Sets Me Apart
My goal is not simply to help students get the correct answer. **I teach students how to think through problems.**
As an experienced classroom educator, I understand the common misconceptions and difficulties students encounter when learning Physics and Mathematics. I am patient and encouraging, and I create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
My experience teaching **AP Physics and STEM** also allows me to help students develop higher-level reasoning, mathematical thinking, and problem-solving skills—not just memorization.
# Who My Lessons Are For
I work with:
* Middle school students studying introductory science and mathematics
* High school students taking Physics or Mathematics
* AP Physics students
* Students preparing for Physics or Math examinations
* Students who need help with homework or challenging topics
* Students who want to strengthen their conceptual understanding
* Students who need additional practice and confidence
* Learners who want personalized one-on-one academic support
I can tailor lessons to the student's **grade level, curriculum, learning objectives, and individual needs**.
Whether you are struggling with your first Physics concepts or preparing for a challenging AP Physics examination, my goal is to help you become a more confident and independent learner.
