About Garnett

As a trained life scientist with a Masters degree in education, I bring to tutoring a bevy of tools and practices to help students & clients reach understanding, mastery, and application of various science, philosophy, and social science subjects. With these diagnostic tools, I am able to individualize lessons and implement imaginative learning methods based upon student/client needs and styles of learning. Setting our sights than on obtaining specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound academic goals.

I have experience in several education settings and philosophies ranging from middle/high schoolers to teaching in Montessori and Reggio settings. I also have experience working with students/clients with disabilities.

I revel in watching the engagement, joy, and excitement of watching a student grow in understanding of a specific topic or content that may have been challenging or difficult to grasp. The confidence that it instills in the student to grow from, maybe "I'm not smart", to with time, habit and practice "I CAN" grow to understand and/or change ways of thinking to master a specific problem set are profound.

I started as a middle school Life Science teacher years ago in a public school in Virginia. Those kids drove me absolutely crazy, lol, but i realized I was hooked and passionate about the role of education and teaching as transformation praxis.

I've worked in with early elementary students, in private Montessori settings, advanced and students with disabilities in the public schools setting, high school students in an alternative education setting as well as a reading tutor in the educational research sector. These students have ranged across age, class, race, gender, trauma affect and ability.

Reach out, have a sense of what you hope to achieve, be ready to work and develop the habits necessary to achieve those goals.

I'm fond of the budding trees. I hope this counts as an event. This is my favorite time of year when the trees look like bronchial tubes and remind me that they are our planets respiratory system.
