About Jerrod

I possess a large amount of basktball experience both as a former collegiate player and current high school coach; as well as an even larger passion for teaching the game to young players. I've been fortunate enough to start my own training brand named MTB (Master The Basics) where the foundation is built upon giving players of all ages and levels the skill development and personal development that is essential both on and off the court. I am committed to developing highly skilled basketball players who understand the importance of qualities like communication, integrity, and a consistent work ethic.

I genuinely enjoy seeing the growth and development of a player as a result of their own hard work. I'm a big believer in the idea that if someone is willing to put in the time and effort, they will get the results they're striving for and have fun with the entire process. It always makes me happy to see a player drastically improve as a result of their own determination and effort. All of their basketball journeys are different, and I appreciate being a part of each one.

When I finished playing basketball at the collegiate level, I immediately got into coaching AAU basketball. After a few months of practices I was approached by parents asking if I would be willing to do extra training sessions with their children. From the very first training session I became extremely passionate about teaching basketball to younger players. I began working with more and more players, which eventually led me to creating/starting my own training brand and I've never looked back since.

About the lesson

My first training session with any new player involves getting an idea of what specific skills the individual needs to improve on the most. This can include any combination of the following: ball handling, shooting, finishing, or more advanced concepts like spacing and specific reads on the court. I also like to get input from the player in order to develop communcation early on, as well as learn what they personally would like to get better at.

Thus far in my training career I've been fortunate enough to work with a large amount of players ranging across all ages. I have worked with elementary school players, middle school players, high school players, as well as some college players. In terms of the younger ages, some are highly-committed players who compete almost all year, whereas others are beginners who are starting to develop a liking for the game.
