About Laurena

I am a Baking and Pastry Arts graduate from The Culinary Institute of America. I love food and cooking. I also love to teach people who want to learn new skills or hone their skills. My classes offer personal enrichment and growth based on the specfic skill you want to learn. These highly personalized classes ensure that you the students are happy because the class was build specifically to your needs. I work with each student to build a taylor made class so each student leaves the class(es) with the knowledge and practical skills they set out to learn.

I LOVE food! I love reading about food. I love making food and trying new recipies. I love eating food. I love feeding others. I love everything about food. My passion for food is only enhanced by joining up with others who also love food. Another passion of mine is learning. I enjoy learning new things and share my knowledge with others. I feel blessed to live in a day and age where so much knowledge is within our reach and most of the time right at our fingertips. Teaching is a great way for me to share my love of food and feeding people with the world. The knowledge ripples outward as the people I teach used their new found skills and knowledge to feed others. So to me food, baking and cooking, is more than eating. It is a way to connect with people.

When I Graduated High School I knew i wanted to teach. I just couoldn't nail down what I wanted to teach. At that time i didn;t even realize that the culinary field was a viable option for college/career. After college I found odd jobs, until I decided a little later than most that i wanted to go to culinary school. After that things have slowly fallen into place and i feel like i am where i am supposed to be; teaching culinary classes!

Graduated top of my class at The Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY; Baking and Pastry Arts.

About the lesson

I start by finding out exactly what the student wants to learn and what their skill level is starting out. Then I put together specific recipes that will help grow that specific skill. I really take into account that the student should be able to recreate this skill using this recipe again at home after the class. Next, I work with the student to make sure that this lesson plan is acceptable and does indeed teach them the skill they wanted to learn. Hopefully there is some back and forth as we fine tune the class plan with a few short conversations or messages; ensuring again that the student is getting what they want. After that we schedule the class. After the class, we can talk about future classes and skills and I make sure they are satisfied with what they learned. I am even available after the class to answer some questions as you try the recipe at home.

So far I have worked with beginner and intermediate bakers.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would say first decide what it is you want to learn. What do you want to cook or bake? If you really don't know as your intstuctor for direction. or Join a preplanned class for the first time.

Since every class is taylor made for each student the price is as well. I have to take in account how long the skill will take to learn or how long something will need to rise or bake, as well as, food cost.
