About Madison

My name is Madison. I a senior at the University of Arkansas. I am double majoring in History and English with an emphasis on creative writing. After graduating I hope to continue my education in grad school to get a master's in English. I would love to pursue teaching and writing novels as a career in the future. For the last three years, I have worked as a group leader at an after school program with students from kindergarten level to fifth grade. I understand that every student is different and needs a different approach. I am willing and determined to find a way for every student to succeed.

I started working with children and teaching because I was a member of the color guard team in high school and an independent group in college. I needed a job that allowed me time to practice and attend competitions on the weekends and allowed me time to study. I first started out working at a daycare and then in the summer at summer camps. I loved the teaching aspect of daycare and summer camp so much that when I returned to campus in the fall of my sophomore year, I got a job working at an after-school program. This job allowed me to create lesson plans, create and teach clubs; I was passionate about, and help students with homework.

I graduated from Bentonville high school with honor and a 4.0 GPA. While in high school, I was selected to attend a global leadership summit in The Hauge, Netherlands. I am currently getting ready to graduate from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's in History and English: Creative Writing. While in college, I have made the deans list one semester and maintained a 3.5 GPA. I am a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I have spent the last three years working with kindergartners to fifth graders.

About the lesson

When I meet a new student, my priority is to get to know that student. Knowing a student's interests and hobbies can help me better adapt the lesson so that the student can gain more from the lesson. Building rapport with a student foster enjoyment in the student for learning and produce better retention of the topic. Throughout this process, I will also figure out where the student is at in their knowledge in order to gauge where to begin.
