About Rob

My service stands out because of my dedication and patience when working with studens. Although relatively new to the field, I have experience working with a wide-range of learners and have been able to be successful in working with students, despite the challenges they face as learners.

I most enjoy watching my students grow in confidence. Witnessing the evolution and transformation of my students into confident learners is extremely fulfilling. I love working with a diverse group of students, with various backgrounds, interests, and skills, and being able to find common ground to develop a positive relationship.

I got started teaching in late 2016. I had graduated from college that spring and was working an office job in the auto insurance industry. I found the work to be soul-crushing and had what some may call a quarter-life crisis. I thought long and hard about what work I would find fulfilling for the rest of my life. Thinking back to my secondary education days of tutoring younger students, my college experience of researching and presenting my Honors thesis to fellow undergraduates, and my desire to improve the world around me, I came to the conclusion that education was the best field for me. I applied to graduate school and began working toward my Master's in January 2017.

I graduated from Simmons College in the Spring of 2018 with a Master of Arts in Teaching, specializing In Secondary History education. Since graduation, I have taught in Lawrence and Boston middle schools. In addition to my history licensure, I am licensed in Moderate Disabilities and English, allowing me to work as both a lead teacher and inclusion specialist in seventh grade Math, English, and Social Studies classrooms. Additionally, I am trained in Wilson's Just Words program, a rules-based reading program that supports students struggling with decoding.

My typical process for working with a new student would be to first get a baseline of where my student is at in their learning process. Once I have that, I am able to analyze strengths and weaknesses and focus on what students need the most work on.

I have worked with a broad range of students. All of my professional experience has been at the middle-school level, but their strengths and areas of improvement span across all grades. I have worked with seventh-grade students that have already mastered middle school mathematics and challenged them with high-school material. I have also worked with seventh-graders who are emerging readers, working on decoding, fluency, and expression. I have worked in schools in high-poverty areas with students that are majority English-language-learners, and also helped students in Boston Public Schools prepare for acceptance to the city's exam schools. I have worked with students with a broad range of abilities, from dyslexic students, students with attention disabilities, students with autism, and students with behavioral and emotional impairments. Throughout it all, I work to tailor my approach for each student to ensure they are getting the education they so rightly deserve.
