About Jacquelyn
The way I view it, my job is to listen to my client while also paying attention to the needs of the assignment. As a tutor, my duty is to help a student improve their writing skills (or critical reading or researching skills, as the case my be) and I achieve this by engaging with the student to get to know what and how they think.
Being truly here for the clients, I proudly advertise that I am willing to meet a client at any stage of the writing process, no need to apologetically preface with "this is a rough draft" with me! I am willing to help you:
-Brainstorm
-Plan/Organize
-Draft (keep in mind, I am not writing it for you, that would be cheating. But I have techniques to help students get words on the paper when they struggle to do so)
-Revise
-Proofread
I am available (by appointment) for either synchronous or asynchronous learning.
Synchronous = Working together on Google Docs or on the platform here while on a video call or phone call
Asynchronous= Student submits a Word file for me to review and I return it at the end of the scheduled hour with comments --not corrections! Comments!
I try to be as flexible as possible for my students and I believe that is something that my students appreciate.
I can not get enough of the "lightbulb moments" with students and seeing a client's confidence grow, and, of course, seeing for myself that they are becoming a stronger writer, researcher, and critical thinker.
Primarily working with high school and college students, I love helping young people get ready for college and helping college students gain confidence in their studies as they embark on a truly difficult but rewarding journey.
I tutored classmates in my undergraduate studies, and intermittently through high school, just providing a new way of looking at the things with which they were struggling. In my graduate program, I received training through an intensive class covering tutoring pedagogy to help develop a tutoring philosophy and diving into the nitty-gritty of grammar and syntax.

I start each session by asking a student what brings them to me; I ask them to describe the assignment, and, if possible, look at an assignment sheet, I'll then ask what their goals are for the session and from there I adjust my approach as I learn more about the student's needs in addition to the needs of the assignment.
I primarily work with high school and college students, including graduate and post-graduate (doctoral) students. I have worked with students of all backgrounds, including non-native English speakers.
This does not mean that I won't work with a gifted middle school student, I just don't have the experience or training for it and so do not want to promise something that I can not deliver as I can with high school and college students.
A regular client of mine met with me for the final time of the semester and I remarked the incredible leaps and bounds she has made in her writing quality in the short three months that we have been working together. She comes to me for papers outside of just English and for assignments other than papers which, to me, indicates a great deal of trust that means the absolute world to me.

I do prefer to work at $25/hour, but I am willing to negotiate within reason as I know that times are hard right now. I do not differentiate between synchronous and asynchronous learning because I do not want someone to short themselves of what they need out of financial concerns.
