About Paris

I focus on students as people and go beyond the academic setting. I believe all students learn and grow when they feel they are seen as people too and not just appreciated for their academic achievements. I am flexible and reliable. I will do my very best to teach in a way that resonates with each student, knowing all students learn differently.

I promise to do my very best to help you. If I don't know the answer, I will find it and teach myself so I can help break it down for you!

I enjoy helping students realize their potential. I have seen many people underestimate themselves or not believe in themselves for various reasons. Everyone has the potential to be a top student. We all deserve to feel competent and intelligent. It's the best feeling helping someone solve a problem and realize that they could do it all along.

Family and friends would ask if I was willing to tutor because of my academic achievements, work ethic and higher education.

I have completed 16 years of schooling; throughout my academic career, I played up to 6 sports, worked 6 jobs and always maintained a competitive GPA. My different work, school and extracurricular experiences allowed me to build skills of time management, organization, and information retention that coincide well with tutoring students. Acknowledging tutoring as official work experience is unapparent in my resume, my experience teaching people of all ages comes from tutoring family and friends. I am excited to bring my skills and passion for educating and helping students to people beyond my personal circle.

Each time I begin tutoring a new student, I like to start off with introductions before we jump into subject matter and tutoring goals. In the perspective of a tutee, I am a stranger brought in to help with schooling. An overarching goal of mine is to organically build comfortability and trust with one another so they feel comfortable making mistakes, not knowing something and not being afraid to ask questions. After introductions, we can discuss goals for tutoring for both the student and their parents', learning styles and school curriculum (i.e. going over the syllabus).

Additionally, I refamilarize myself with the content we will be dicussing beforehand. I prepare general exercises and lessons for the first session that can help set a baseline of the tutee's knowledge and where their strengths and weaknesses may lie. Initial general assessment can also derive from completing worksheets or homework assigned by their teacher. I will have preset lessons on hand to be able to teach whichever current chapter the student may be on. After having discussed their school's curriculum, I will design lessons each session accordingly.

I have worked on a variety of subjects with middle school, high school and college students; the most common subject was math.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would suggest assessing your strengths and weaknesses before anything else. Knowing what you know and what you don't can filter out any filler questions and allow you to dive right in to what you need the most help with.

It never hurts to know your goals and learning styles as well. Do you need a breakdown summary of the entire subject or help understanding a specific subtopic? Are you an auditory, visual, reading/writing, or kinesthetic learner or a variation of multiple? Not all students learn the same; some can pick up information simply by listening to lectures or going through slides. Other students visually comprehend through maps and graphics. Some need more hands-on learning to retain the information. I recommend figuring out what works best for you.

Details

There is a baseline price as a starting point for all students. However, pricing will vary depending on the grade level as older students are learning more deeper subject material that will require more hours outside of tutoring to prepare the lessons and exercises.
