About Himanshu
I have been working as a tutor for the past seven years, aiding students in a variety of topics ranging from algebra to economics to preparing for the MCAT. During this time, I have learned that helping a student prepare to study in terms of making a schedule that is both extensive and manageable is often just as important as actually tutoring. I also realize that taking tests, especially standardized tests, is a skill in and of itself, and am committed to helping students become comfortable with the process of taking tests in addition to helping them understand the material.
I (23, recent college graduate) enjoy building relationships with students, watching them overcome the obstacles they face, and seeing them accomplish their goals.
I began tutoring in high school as a volunteer, and then began getting paid as a tutor in college so I could pay for my expenses.
I have been working as a tutor in subjects ranging from math to economics to chemistry for six years now. Additionally, as an undergraduate, I was a teaching assistant in both biology and chemistry. Recently, I have been working as an MCAT Tutor for a consulting company.

When beginning to work with a new student, I like to learn what their goals are, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and learn about their other involvements so I can plan out how to proceed with the student in a manner that is most beneficial and manageable for the student.
I have worked with students from a wide variety of backgrounds and academic performance, but they have all had a strong work ethic and were dedicated to putting in the time and effort to succeed.
Every tutor is knowledgeable and will be able to teach information. However, when picking a tutor, make sure they are willing to craft an individual study plan for you based on your gaols and background.
I recently had the chance to go to the beach on Labor Day to see the sunrise. It was great because there were not many people there at that time, so we were able to socially distance.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think prior to talking to teachers, students should identify their own strengths and weaknesses, especially what they are having difficulty with: the concept/information, applying it, hard questions, etc. so they can work with the teacher and focus their efforts on what will actually help them improve, rather than being taught the material again if it is not necessary.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
I liked that he was patient when explaining material, in that he was willing to explain topics in multiple ways until I understood it and brought in relevant practice questions so I could test my grasp on it.
I worked with him for a month and a half to prepare for my MCAT. In addition to being very knowledgeable, he took the time to prepare for sessions based on what I wanted to cover and also sending follow ups with clarifications that he felt was not adequately covered during our sessions. He also was very good at explaining concepts in ways that were easy to understand and making material as relatable as possible so they were easier to remember.
