About Sarah

I love teaching math and reading. I have taught all grade levels from K-7 and am proficient in these math and reading skills. I have a Master's Degree in Special Education and more than 15 years experience. I am certified in Elementary Education 1-6, Special Education K-12, and English Language Arts 5-8.

It's thrilling to see students make growth and grow in their skills and self-confidence. I try to make teaching fun for both the student and myself.

I knew I wanted to teach from the time I was in high school. I attended the University of Northern Iowa and earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Elementary Education. Later I attended Arkansas State University and earned a Master's of Science in Special Education. I also became ELA certified while teaching 7th-8th grade Language Arts.

About the lesson

Tutoring typically begins with learning the background of each student and with assessment. After determining where the gaps in learning are, we attack each one until the student is able to perform the skill independently.

I have worked with regular education students, special education learning disabilities, special education Intellectual Disorders, students on the autism spectrum, and students with emotional and behavioral difficulties.

Look for someone who is able to start where you are. It's important that the teacher can identify skill gaps and provide instruction so you have a solid base to work from when learning more advanced skills.

I love to travel. Last summer I took a trip to South Dakota and my spouse and I hiked and camped. Being out in nature fills my soul in a way that nothing else can.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about how much time and effort you are willing to give to achieve your goals. A great tutor should make things challenging but doable. Expect your tutor to push you out of your comfort zone once in a while.
