About Laura
I'm available for tutoring math for both highschool and college. I cover all math up to calculus. I'm good at making math easy and fun. I have a degree in chemistry from Drexel University. I have all my clearences to work with kids.
I really love math! To me its just like working a puzzle. I enjoy building confidence in my students and watching them achieve their academic goals.
When I was in college I tutored other students in math, especially non-science majors. I have 2 kids, and I often help them with their homework.
I started out as an artist, but when I turned 30 I went back to school for my chemistry degree. I was always very intimidated by math and science, but my teachers made it so logical and interesting that I would up majoring in chemistry. Chemistry requires a lot of math. This was a huge hurdle for me coming from an art background. I had to go all the way back and start with basic math before I could take the classes I needed for college level calculus. While in school, I did a lot of tutoring. I find math fun, kind of like working a puzzle.

When I first meet a student, they are usually overwhelmed and frustrated. I look at the concepts that they need to know and break it down into simple, easy to understand steps. I listen to their questions and reassure them that we can tackle this together.
I have tutored several nursing students who need algebra to get through their courses for their RN. I also tutor younger kids (elementary school) who just need a little one-on-one work to fully understand the concepts. Because I have an art background as well as a degree in science, I like to use visual aids to help students grasp a concept. I also like using real life examples to show how these ideas apply.
Pick some one with good communication skills. There are a lot of math whizzes out there, but very few who can verbalize what they are doing and why. Find someone that can make you feel comfortable. Often when school work gets tough, you wind up feeling very stressed. Your tutor should make you feel calm and reassured. They need to be able to guide you through the problem one step at a time.
The other night my daughter was struggling with understanding fractions. I drew some pictures for her of what different fractions look like and then we were able to move on to the next step: adding and subtracting fractions.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what part of the lesson you are working on is confusing. Go back to your text book and try and find the spot where you became lost. This will help your tutor know how far back to go, and what problems to review. Try not to get discuraged, a little help can put you right back on track!

Perfect! This review is for the work Laura has done with my 10 y/o son. Laura is a creative and imaginative tutor and my son has a great time working with her. She thinks of many different ways to approach math subjects and he always enjoys his time with her. In the months he has been working with her he has greatly improved in both his math skills and self-confidence. She is a wonderful tutor and I highly recommend her.
Perfect! Laura Eyeing is a very genuine person. She's intelligent, and she cared about the progress that I made with her tutoring. She was always prepared, and on time, and remained professional each time I met with her. She is a wonderful person.
