About Beverly
*Passionately dedicated to child literacy
*28 years of experience in K-6 education
*Very sensitive to various learning-styles
*Able to pre-assess and provide needs-based instruction
*Experience using digital learning tools for on-line teaching
The thing I enjoy most about teaching literacy is establishing friendships with new learners, gaining their trust, and in the end proving to them that they can be successful and meet their goals. I get a rush just from seeing the whole process unfold from beginning to end; a child moving from little or no letter recognition to becoming a proficient, independent reader. Nothing is more rewarding than this!
I got started with my interest in teaching while "playing school" with childhood friends in our neighborhood clubhouse. I began my teaching career first as a part-time classroom tutor and after-school daycare assistant. Once I got my first official teaching position I never looked back!
*I have had 28 years teaching experience in Elementary Education
* Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education (Winston-Salem State University
*Master's Degree in Elementary Education (Appalachian State University
* VIPKIDS certified on-line teacher/tutor

The first thing I typically do is introduce myself and begin getting to know him/her and parent(s). Secondly I will ask parent/student to perform a interest/ needs survey. The survey would then be used to set up pre-assessment of current skills. Student performance on this skills assessment helps me establish a place and area to begin instruction.
I have worked with a variety of learners including struggling learners from both high and low socieconomic backgrounds, as well as gifted learners needing to be challenged above their grade level.
I have worked with students requiring special needs; such as hearing/vision impaired and special behavioral needs, outlined in Individualized Educational Plans.
If you want to hire a really great literacy teacher, make sure he/she provides lots of fun, engaging, student-teacher interaction. Games, visual tools, singing, and clapping are all a must!
A recent event that I am fond of is my youngest child recently getting a part-time job and a driver's license! Hooray, now I have more time for tutoring!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think through these questions before sharing your needs with a teacher:
What are my learning goals, what do I wish to achieve?
What are my interest and hobbies?
How do I learn best?
How much does my teacher/tutor care about my learning?

Perfect! Mrs. Beverly is an amazing tutor! The amount of time she takes to connect with her students helps her to create a personalized lesson for your child! My son loves his new tutor and she’s well worth the price. Mrs. Beverly uses her 28 years of teaching to assess her students so she can meet them at their current level and work on improving.
