About Casey
[Note: this website automatic charges me between $25-40 when you send me a message regardless of whether you end up choosing me as your tutor. So I would appreciate if you could first read through profile and then send me a message if you think we would be a good fit. Unfortunately, that is not an insignificant amount of money for me so I really would appreciate if you could do me this favor. Thank you!]
Hello everyone!
My name is Casey and I just recently graduated from Johns Hopkins university. I scored a 1530/1600 on the SAT and I've been tutoring SAT formally for about 4 years and informally for longer. My students usually improve by roughly 200 points and reach their goals after working with me. I'd love to work with you to make sure you meet your goals too! I want to briefly tell you about my teaching style. Before the first session, I would like for you to take a diagnostic test so I can assess what your strengths and weaknesses are. During the first session, we will go over your mistakes on that test and then we will develop a personalized plan based on what I think you need the most work on. What usually happens with most of my students is that we spend half of the time until the test learning new concepts and then the second half doing practice tests and mastering timing and test taking strategies. I would love to hop on a call and tell you more if you'd like! I typically charge $75/hour, and less per person if you have a friend that would like to join. Finally, I understand that tutoring can be expensive so I'd be willing to negotiate if finances are an issue preventing you from achieving you goal. Thank you! And I look forward to working with you.
Casey
I started mainly as tutoring the people around me informally. As I got into college, I took up a part time job tutoring for SAT and some high school math.
I graduated high school with the International Baccalaureate diploma. I took the SAT after self studying for a few months and got a 1530/1600 (790 on the math section and 740 on the Reading & Writing Section). I have had another SAT tutoring job where my students have increased up to 250 points with a few months. I have also been informally tutoring my younger siblings and friends.

Before Day 1: Take a diagnostic test
On Day 1: Review test, talk about goals, see areas that need more focus
The rest of the days include the student taking practice tests and me reviewing it with them during tutoring sessions. By reviewing it with them, I will include tips about timing, content and other things I've picked up from my own experience.
American and International high school students from 9-12th grade.
I would say make sure it is someone who will be encouraging and patient, but stern enough to make sure you stay diligent. You can't expect the tutor to do all the work and you will magically get better. Find someone who will flexible and push you to be your best while guiding you so you can reach your academic goal in the most efficient way!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Some questions before coming to Day 1:
What are my strengths and weaknesses?
What are my goals?
How much time and energy do I have/want to spend on this test?
How do I want tutoring sessions to be structures? (Of course, I will definitely have it planned)

I would like lessons to be at least an hour so that we can really go in depth.
*Note: I don't mind negotiating on prices because I understand what it is like to not necessarily be able to afford high end tutoring. I had self-studied myself, but if I had a good tutor back then, it would have benefited me.
