About Paul

I retired from teaching math at Lake Travis High School in May of 2025. Over the last five school years, I taught both math and engineering courses. I truly enjoy helping young students develop confidence in their STEM-based courses. I gained a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman, a #1 ranked specialty engineering college, and had a technical engineering career for many years. I retired from my industry career in 2019 and then turned my attention to teaching. I am a certified Texas teacher in the areas of Engineering, Physical Science, and math for grades 6-12. I am married with three grown children who are out making a difference in the world on their own.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is to first assess a student's strengths and weaknesses in the given subject, then develop a plan to address the weaknesses. As we work through assignments, I like to employ the "I do, we do, you do" approach to each type of problem. It is all about the student developing the confidence they need to handle any type of course problem they will eventually face. I have worked with hundreds of high school students of all levels of competence and have raised three bright children of my own. It would be my privilege to work with your student over a span of time to help them develop the confidence they need.

Perfect! Mr. Gunn has been wonderful to work with. He is extremely patient and very communicative with the parents along the learning journey. Our son was struggling in geometry and Paul's methodical approach to teaching helped him not only finish the class strong, but build a better study habit he can also use in other classes. We had a great experience working with Mr. Gunn and would recommend him to anyone looking for assistance with math.

$30/hr. Rate is for travel to your home within 10 miles of Steiner Ranch. An additional $15 travel charge for up to 10 miles away. If you come to me or if we do an online session, the fee is $30/hr. I am able to take payments via Venmo or check.
