About Lily

I spent years working as a special education teacher before shifting toward private ESL instruction, and that background completely shapes how patiently and flexibly I approach every single lesson today. Fifteen years into this specific teaching work, I have guided approximately three hundred forty adult students, including many who struggled significantly with formal classroom language instruction previously in their lives. My special education training gives me genuinely rare tools, multiple teaching modalities, careful pacing, deep patience, that most ESL teachers were simply never taught themselves. I work particularly well with adult learners who have learning differences, limited prior formal education, or real anxiety around language learning as adults. My teaching style is endlessly patient and genuinely adaptive, built on the core belief that every single adult can learn, just not always the same way as everyone else. I have guided numerous students who had given up on English entirely toward genuine, lasting confidence and real practical ability. Students consistently tell me they finally feel understood rather than judged for needing a different pace or approach than usual. I take enormous pride in helping adult learners who felt like the problem discover that the teaching method was simply the actual issue all along. After fifteen years, I remain deeply committed to this patient, adaptive philosophy.

My years in special education taught me that there is no single correct way to teach anyone, so every ESL lesson starts with figuring out how a particular adult learner actually learns best. I use multiple approaches simultaneously, visual, auditory, and hands-on, adjusting constantly based on what genuinely clicks for the individual sitting in front of me. Vocabulary gets broken into small, manageable chunks tied to real daily life, with plenty of repetition, since I learned firsthand that one explanation rarely works for everyone equally. I build in regular, genuine check-ins on comprehension, never assuming silence means understanding, a lesson special education taught me clearly and repeatedly over the years. Grammar gets taught through concrete, practical patterns rather than abstract rule recitation, since abstract explanation often loses adult learners juggling work and family alongside lessons. I celebrate small, genuine progress constantly and specifically, since building real confidence matters enormously for adults who have previously felt embarrassed or behind. Pacing is entirely individualized, never rushed to match an arbitrary external timeline, because genuine understanding matters far more than covering material on schedule. I work especially patiently with students who have learning differences, limited prior schooling, or anxiety, treating those needs as completely normal rather than obstacles. Every lesson adapts to the student, never the reverse.
