Find out more about Marwa

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Science was my favourite subject when I was in high school, and my interest in science grew even more with the classes at the laboratory as I liked connecting the theoretical and practical parts together. I enjoy the thinking process, learning something new, and the passion for exploring new ideas. That was very helpful with my students to understand hard concepts in an easy way and I love what I do!
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)

I love all three sciences, but my favourite is chemistry as it's an experimental science and we can check theoretical knowledge in practice. I choose to focus more on chemistry and go deep as a tutor. I do teach different topics in chemistry such as: General Chemistry, Analytical, Basic Organic and Inorganic Chemistry as well.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I am very lucky to have my M.Sc. supervisor in my life and he taught me the first course in my bachelor's degree. He is a genius in his field and knows exactly how to explain every word. Additionally, he was kind and interactive with students. So that helped me a lot to always think about how to improve myself as a tutor in both aspects: knowledge and my character.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I think it takes many traits to be a qualified tutor, but the most important ones are patience with giving consideration to the student's level, ability to speak in a simple language and ability to simplify hard concepts in different ways.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

The first professor I met in the chemistry department during my Bachelor degree became my supervisor for my M.Sc. degree after 10 years, and I was fascinated about how he was very knowledgeable and had a neat handwriting.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

I remember one difficulty when I started online teaching that I had faced which was how to explain an abstract concept without experiment and I found the simulation videos are the solution and even more supportive.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I'm a chemist lover and that goes with my passion to share knowledge with others and help students as much as I can via teaching and overcoming their difficulties in a particular course or topic. Beside that I like walking, watching crime movies, chess, doing puzzles and crocheting.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I'm always looking to improve my teaching skills and trying to provide my students with the best thing that I know. I'm a Superprof as a result of my eagerness to help people to truly understand concepts and ideas, pre planning lessons with enthusiasm, and custom each lesson according to the student 's needs.
