About Tim

I am a fully qualified and experienced Teacher of Science and Physics, with 8 years of classroom teaching experience and over 1,500 hours of private tutoring experience across Edinburgh and London.

I am registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and a member of the PVG Scheme for both children and adults. I hold a BSc in Mathematics and Physics from The Open University and a PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University, and completed my teaching probationary year in Inner London.

I offer online tutoring in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics at secondary level, including support with National 5, Higher and equivalent qualifications. As a practising Physics teacher, I bring current classroom experience and a strong understanding of the skills, knowledge and exam techniques students need to make progress.

Alongside classroom teaching, I have extensive experience supporting students on apprenticeship programmes, training and mentoring learners in professional environments, and providing individual tuition. My tutoring approach is friendly, patient and structured, with lessons adapted to each student's needs, confidence and goals. Whether a student needs help understanding difficult concepts, building confidence, preparing for exams or stretching themselves beyond the classroom, I aim to make each session purposeful and engaging.

I offer flexible online tuition through Microsoft Teams and am happy to work with students on either a short-term or long-term basis. References are available upon request.

About the lesson

I tailor each lesson to the individual student's needs, abilities and goals. As a fully qualified teacher with 8 years of classroom experience and over 1,500 hours of tutoring experience, I am experienced in identifying areas for improvement and turning them into clear, achievable steps.

Lessons are structured around the relevant exam specification, combining clear explanations, questioning, worked examples and targeted practice. I focus on developing both subject knowledge and confidence, helping students understand not only how to reach an answer, but why it is correct.

I build positive relationships with students based on trust, encouragement and mutual respect. I can break complex topics down to their fundamentals for students who need additional support, while also extending beyond the core specification to challenge higher-attaining students.

Whether the goal is to build confidence, improve grades, prepare for exams or develop deeper subject understanding, each lesson is focused on making meaningful progress.
