About Barbara

I have been working with students of diverse cultures and backgrounds and I love learning about different cultures. I speak Spanish and my mother was born and raised in Guatemala. My father was born in Germany. I am a first generation American and I love learning new things everyday.

About the lesson

For my ESL students I enjoy helping students with their coursework. When I help students with English I ask them to tell me how you would say the same word in their native language. I want students to know that although it may be challenging to learn a new language it can be done step by step. I have created lesson plans that include everyday words that can help in a work or school setting. I also modify assignments. I think breaking down topics into manageable parts really helps my students to not feel so overwhelmed. Once a student understands an assignment I ask them to explain it back to me that way I can understand if they need more help or if they can move on to another problem.
