I understand that reading and writing can be challenging—I faced similar difficulties during my high school years. However, through dedication and guidance, I was able to overcome these hurdles, and I am here to help you do the same.
With a Master’s degree in Literature and Theology from Bethlehem College, combined with teaching experience at a classical school, I bring both academic expertise and practical teaching skills to our sessions. My goal is to make the learning process easier and more enjoyable for you.

My lessons will primarily be conversational because my goal as a tutor is to help you clearly and persuasively put to words what you are thinking. Writing by definition is organizing your thoughts into words, and my desire is to help you do this well. The skills learned here will transcend the books you are reading in class, and you will be able to apply what is learned to any context. What future employers are looking for even above degrees is a person with critical thinking, that is, a person who is able to engage in the world confidently and effectively. Developing good reading and writing skills are an indispensable step in becoming that kind of person. A seemingly easy task that is much harder than most people think.
That is the why of tutoring, now for the how. As I stated earlier, my lessons will primarily be conversational. We will cover the necessary literature, touch up on any portions that were difficult, and then move to sound interpretation. From that foundation, we will transition to the composition of an essay with special focus on the introductory paragraph––the most important part of any essay. Through the conversations that we have, you will develop a greater understanding of the literature you are reading as well as a growing ability to communicate persuasively.
A typical lesson plan format:
1. Discussion of Assigned Literature: We start by discussing the reading material, focusing on comprehension and critical analysis.
2. Addressing Difficult Sections: We identify and work through any challenging parts of the text.
3. Interpretation: We interpret the text together, ensuring you grasp the underlying themes and messages.
4. Essay Composition: We develop your essay-writing skills, particularly focusing on the introduction.
5. Review and Feedback: I provide constructive feedback on your work, helping you refine your writing.
I believe what sets me apart a tutor is my educational background and teaching experience at a classical school. Bethlehem College was a rigorous place that demanded copious amounts of reading that ranged from ancient Greek, to medieval philosophy, to elegant poetry, and current socio-economic writings. Having to read about and write across all of these disciplines has given me a richer understanding of the world and how to engage in it well. Additionally, my having taught at a classical school bolstered my ability to help a wide variety of students all of whom had varied ways of learning.
My lessons are tailored for students ranging from elementary to undergraduate levels. Whether you need help with basic reading and writing skills or advanced essay composition, I can provide the guidance you need to succeed.
