About Jorge

Hello hello! I am a recent graduate in mathematics and linguistics from (The) Ohio State University. Having initially had a strong dislike towards math, I had one teacher in high school who completely revolutionized my view on math, to the point I even majored in it. Since then, I have learned just how capable everyone is to learn any subject when someone (like me, ^_^) is willing to take the time to get to know their students and personalize lesson plans individually for them. Being Latino myself, I also have insight into how minority communities may feel discouraged from exploring STEM-related subjects; this is something I especially want to tackle. Remember: I believe in you, and I know you can do it, whether it is with me or someone else, or even yourself. Here's one way to understand me: I am a chef of life, and also in the kitchen: I put my heart, passion, and soul into whatever I make. What brings me joy is seeing the glowing light on someone's face from something I made, may it have been from my cooking or from finally understanding a burning question through my lesson. Everyone has preferences, and it is my job to whip up something for each unique person that yields the same result: a happy person! *LGBTQIA+ Safe Space

About the lesson

I enjoy taking a question-based approach where a student may begin with a question or interest, and from there we explore the content and topic. Most importantly, I enjoy asking questions that allow me to gain a personal understanding of the student and from there, creating a stylized approach that will be effective in ensuring the material is retained. This may include: (1) incorporating music into lessons, (2) cultural references, (3) appropriately-timed breaks, (4) and many more possibilities, because everyone is unique, and it is my responsibility to find that path that leads to a student's success ^_^

Generally, I can cater to a variety of students ranging from pre-Kindergarten to college. I will ask for some time in advance (if the student can) to prepare material, just to make sure I can have resources and ideas available for when we meet. This may include asking for recent lessons/notes in class, general subject category, and recent assignments. If not, that is still perfectly fine! We will always find a way to make sure every and any question is answered.

*PLEASE NOTE: I do not conduct lessons at private residences, but rather agreed-upon public spaces as a safety precaution and to avoid home distractions.
