About Hira

I’m an English specialist with a passion for helping students find clarity and confidence in a subject that can often feel subjective or overwhelming. My teaching is rooted in the belief that strong ideas matter just as much as strong expression—so I support students in developing both.

With a background in English and teacher training (BA English and PGCE), I’ve worked with students aged 11–18 across AQA, Edexcel, and OCR. This has given me a clear understanding of how expectations shift from early secondary through to GCSE and A Level, particularly when it comes to analytical writing and interpretation.

What sets my approach apart is the focus on thinking before writing. Rather than relying on memorised responses, I guide students to form their own interpretations of texts—whether that’s Shakespeare, modern drama, or poetry—and then shape those ideas into sophisticated, exam-ready answers. We look closely at how language, form, and structure work together, but always with a clear link to meaning and argument. I also place a strong emphasis on academic voice and precision. Many students know more than they think—they just need support in articulating it effectively. Through targeted feedback and modelling, I help students write with clarity, control, and confidence.

Above all, I aim to create a supportive space where students feel comfortable exploring ideas, asking questions, and challenging themselves. Progress in English isn’t just about grades—it’s about developing the ability to think critically and communicate powerfully, skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

My online lessons are structured, interactive, and highly focused. I use a combination of screen sharing, live annotation, and collaborative documents so students can see exactly how ideas are developed and refined in real time.

A typical lesson will include a balance of teaching, discussion, and practice. We might begin by reviewing prior learning or completing a quick retrieval task, before moving into a focused skill—such as analysing language, structuring an essay, or improving a paragraph. I model high-quality responses step-by-step, then guide students as they apply these techniques themselves.

Students are actively involved throughout. I regularly ask questions, encourage verbal explanations, and use live editing to show how writing can be improved instantly. This helps students understand not just what to write, but how to think. I also provide:

Real-time feedback and corrections
Annotated model answers
Clear, actionable targets after each lesson
Optional homework to reinforce skills

All resources are shared digitally, so students can revisit notes, model paragraphs, and feedback at any time.

The aim is to make online learning feel just as engaging and effective as in-person teaching—while giving students the tools and independence to continue improving between sessions.
