About Miko

Hi there! I’m excited to be your tutor. I’ve always been passionate about helping others achieve their academic and personal goals, and I bring a lot of experience to the table. Throughout my journey, I’ve developed a strong foundation in mentoring and teaching, even though I don’t hold formal qualifications. What I do have is a deep commitment to making learning engaging, relatable, and effective.

In school, I was the captain of my sixth-form football team and actively involved in athletics and other sports. These experiences taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance—values that I bring into my tutoring sessions. Beyond sports, I’m also a strong advocate for mental health. I believe in the power of open conversations, which led me to start my own podcast where I discuss topics related to personal development and mental well-being.

I’ve had the privilege of being a public speaker throughout my school years, sharing my thoughts and experiences on various platforms. This has helped me develop strong communication skills, which I use to connect with my students and explain concepts in a way that’s easy to understand. As a student ambassador at university, I’ve guided and supported many students, helping them navigate their academic and personal challenges.

My approach to tutoring is all about understanding your unique learning style and needs. I aim to create a supportive environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas. Whether you’re looking to improve your grades, prepare for exams, or gain a better understanding of a subject, I’m here to help you every step of the way.

Tutoring Approach and Teaching Methodology

Techniques and Teaching Methodology:
My tutoring approach is centered around personalized learning, where I adapt my teaching methods to fit the individual needs of each student. I employ a combination of the following techniques:

Interactive Learning: I engage students in active problem-solving and critical thinking through interactive exercises. This approach helps students build a deeper understanding of the subject matter and retain information more effectively.

Socratic Method: By asking thought-provoking questions, I encourage students to think independently and articulate their understanding. This method helps students develop their reasoning skills and fosters a deeper grasp of the concepts.
Scaffolded Learning: I break down complex topics into manageable segments, providing support as needed. Over time, I gradually reduce assistance, allowing students to build confidence and autonomy in their learning process.

Real-World Application: I connect theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, making the learning experience more relevant and engaging for students. This approach not only helps in understanding but also demonstrates the practical utility of the knowledge.

Feedback and Assessment: Continuous feedback is vital in my sessions. I regularly assess students’ progress and provide constructive feedback to guide their improvement. This includes formative assessments like quizzes, discussions, and assignments. Utilising Feedback sheets at certain checkpoints (i.e., every 5th lesson and so on)

Typical Length of a Lesson:
Each lesson typically lasts between 60 to 90 minutes. This duration allows ample time to cover new material, engage in interactive learning activities, and review previous content without overwhelming the student. For younger students or beginners, shorter sessions of 45 minutes may be more appropriate to maintain focus and engagement.

Qualifications/Experience as a Tutor:

While I don’t hold formal qualifications, I bring a wealth of practical experience and a deep passion for teaching. I have successfully tutored family friends helping them to achieve their academic goals and build confidence in their abilities.

My approach is informed by hands-on experience and a commitment to understanding each student's unique learning style. Over the years, I’ve developed effective strategies for explaining complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand, which has consistently led to positive outcomes for my students.

I am continuously learning and adapting my methods to ensure that I provide the best possible support to my students. My experience and dedication have equipped me with the necessary skills to address diverse learning needs effectively, even without formal qualifications.

Target Audience:
My lessons are designed for secondary school and sixth-form students who are seeking to improve their understanding in university and work applications. I cater to students of varying abilities, whether they are looking to strengthen their foundational knowledge, prepare for exams, or advance their skills to a higher level. My approach is flexible and can be adapted to meet the needs of students ranging from 11-21.
