About Cat
Think of me as Ms. Frizzle...without the perilous field trips.
I have BS Biology and BS Biochemistry degrees from The University of Tampa. I also worked in the conservation ecology and organic chemistry labs on campus where I did both lab and field work that I later published and presented at multiple graduate-level conferences.
I've been tutoring in some capacity for over 20 years, from elementary to college level, and I've learned a lot about instructional design and how to help neurodivergent students learn, since I also have ADHD.
I genuinely love science and believe a teacher's (or tutor's) role isn't to just help the student memorize a bunch of facts but inspire an appreciation for the subject through hands-on learning to bring the material to life and put it in a larger context.
I treat all students with respect and don't give up on them, even if they don't learn the same as everyone else. I do believe in working with each student to find how they best learn then adapting the lesson to what's best for them, instead of forcing them to conform to what's convenient or expected.
Every student deserves a chance to learn.

Every student is different, so I tailor lessons to your needs and learning style.
I draw models, do at-home experiments (that are safe), create interactive activities and quizzes, and put the facts into a larger context so it's easier to not just memorize but understand so you're more confident in the classroom.
I lead each session with the goal of helping you deepen your appreciation of science, and I find points of common interest to make the lesson fun.
I tutor middle school and high school students in the US, including AP students, in biology, zoology, ecology, and chemistry.
